Pyramid of Khafra (Chefren) on the Giza plateau
Only around 10 metres lower than the Great Pyramid, the Khafre Pyramid is the second-largest pyramid in Egypt. The pyramid is distinctive in that the upper portion of it still has the old cladding’s remnants.
At Giza, Khafra constructed a pyramid next to his father’s structure. Its pyramid complex has been maintained better than others, in part because of a novel construction technique that involved enclosing large limestone blocks in a sheath of thin face slabs. After the god-pharaoh was buried, the entire structure was used as a temple for him.
Where is the pyramid of Khafre located?
On the Giza plateau outside of Cairo, the pyramid of Khafre is situated southwest of the large pyramid of Cheops.
Who built the pyramid?
According to legend, Pharaoh Khafre, the son of Cheops and the father of Menkaure, to whom the other two pyramids of the same funeral complex were dedicated, oversaw the construction of this pyramid.
The Sphinx, the Valley Temple, the processional route connecting the pyramid to the funeral temple, and a solar boat were all built by the pharaoh’s builders in addition to this pyramid.
Why was the pyramid of Khafre built?
